Acha Leke
Principal, McKinsey & Company

Acha is a Partner of McKinsey & Company, based in its Sub Saharan Africa office in Johannesburg. He started his McKinsey career as a Summer Associate in the Johannesburg office in 1998 and rejoined the Firm in Atlanta in August 1999. He transferred back to Johannesburg in January 2002.

Acha’s client work has been split between telecom, oil & gas, and banking; he has served his clients on issues of new investment decisions, business building, turn around, growth strategies, and economic development predominantly across Sub Saharan Africa (e.g., South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Botswana).

Prior to McKinsey, Acha worked for 3 years as a part-time Consultant at Pacific Monolithics, Inc and Spectrian Corporation, both in Sunnyvale, CA on novel techniques to linearize High Power Amplifiers for wireless applications, while completing a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. His research at Stanford focused on applying xDSL techniques to wireless broadband transmission. Acha also received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management from Stanford University, as well as a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering summa cum laude, with a minor in Economics, from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he graduated as Valedictorian (first Black Valedictorian in the School’s history) and was elected to Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu. He is also a co-founder and member of the Board of the African Leadership Academy, a co-educational boarding school which aims to develop the next generation of African leaders. In 2008 he was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, as Africa’s Young Investment Professional of the year at the Ai Investment Awards, and as one of the top 100 movers and shakers in Africa by Les Afriques, one of Africa’s leading Financial journals. Acha is originally from Cameroon, and is fluent in both English and French.

Freddie Twum
Engagement Manager, McKinsey & Company, Lagos, Nigeria

Freddie is an Engagement Manager with McKinsey & Company, based in its Sub Saharan Africa office in Lagos, Nigeria. He started his McKinsey career as a Summer Associate in the Atlanta office in 2005, rejoining Atlanta in September 2006. Freddie transferred to the Sub Saharan Africa office in April 2009 and is part of the leadership team driving McKinsey’s Lagos office.
During his time at McKinsey Freddie has focused his work on financial institutions across the private and public sector (mainly banks in Africa, North America & Europe), with his primary functional areas of experience being sales/marketing, growth strategy, corporate finance and organization. He is a core member if the Financial Institutions Group in Sub-Saharan Africa and McKinsey’s Sales & Marketing. Prior to joining McKinsey, Freddie worked in corporate finance for Morgan Stanley in London and was an energy trader for BP (also in London). He holds a BA Honors in Economics and Finance as well as an MBA with from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. Freddie is originally from Ghana.
