Panel -- FIFA 2010: South Africa and the World Cup

Panel Summary:

In June 2010, an estimated 2.7 million spectators will be attending the 64 World Cup matches played around South Africa.  This event presents enormous opportunity for the country, from both an economic and social standpoint.  However, with this sea of opportunities come a set of challenges that must be addressed and overcome in order to ensure that the event meets expectations. The FIFA 2010 panel aims to address the business, investment and policy implications of the World Cup for South Africa, assess the country’s preparedness for the event in the areas of infrastructure, tourism, transport, and security and explore ways in which these benefits can be made to last beyond 2010.
