Art Show: Alchemy, Body & Landscape
An exhibition by: Tsitsi Isabel Gora

The body as landscape … what is a landscape? A background of events, a backdrop for actions, active or static, constantly evolving but staying the same. The body as reflective of ethnicity, where ethnicity constitutes a problematic notion in the terrain of african politics today as seen in Kenya, Rwanda and Darfur. The marking of belonging and the surface on which symbolic belonging is attached….clothing and tribal marks….the human body has remained the same for 2000 years but it remains the backdrop for socioeconomic and cultural evolution as does the landscape that constantly surrounds us.

Tsitsi Isabel Gora is a practicing artist and architect, with a background in visual arts from Harvard and is currently at MIT pursuing a master’s degree in Architecture. Her work explores the notion of landscape in relation to global issues. She has a keen interest in Africa, African issues, transitional justice and change. Her work has been exhibited at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, the Venice Biennale and several shows at Harvard.
